Mare the Witch of Svetvinčenat
Svetvinčenat, Renaissance town, located in the south of central Istria, was first mentioned in the 10th century.
Amongst numerous churches, it also boasts a Renaissance square with stone castles and wells.
Svetvinčenat is not only famous for its history and architecture, but it is also known for an interesting historical person, Mare the Witch.
Svetvinčenat offers its visitors an interesting virtual time travel experience by getting to know more about the well-known legends: “Mare the Witch” and “The Legend of the Unknown Horseman“.
The story about Mare Radolovich, a victim of the 17th-century witch – the hunt is presented to the visitors by her ghost. It throws them back into the distant past where they will have the main role of defending the Morosini-Grimani castle by using virtual archery.

In 1632, Mare Radolovich, the herbalist of Svetvinčenat, was accused of witchcraft by her fellow citizens.
Even though she helped and treated them with her herbal cures, they condemned her and burnt her at the stake in the backyard of Morosini-Grimani Castle.
