With such a warm and welcoming vibe, it doesn’t surprise to find out that Zagreb is, with 74%, the second capital city in Europe by the percentage of total green infrastructure. And it’s widely known that the people of Zagreb adore the open green spaces the city gives them.

We’re talking about Maksimir, Bundek, Jarun, Savica, Sava River, Lenuci’s Green Horseshoe, Ribnjak, Tuškanac, and the wonderful nature of Medvednica mountain – this is all the green side of Zagreb which raises the quality of life of the local people.

Unlike most bigger cities, especially capitals, Zagreb is full of trees and meadows, lakes and streams, green squares, and serene parks.

Whether used for recreation, rest, socializing, or relaxation: spending time in green spaces alleviates stress and improves mental health. It contributes to children’s physical and mental health and reduces the risk of obesity. It improves the health of the elderly and contributes to their inclusion in social events. Isn’t it incredible what nature can do to the urban environment?

Zagreb is a natural green oasis

So we can proudly say that Zagreb is a real green oasis <3

With this in mind, the summer program of the Zagreb tourist board – BUZZ ZG, came up with an extension that celebrates a different part of Zagreb – the green one ;). They created GREEN BUZZG – a new campaign dedicated to the green and sustainable segment of Zagreb’s tourist offer.

Zagreb is a city incredibly intertwined with nature. Nature is calling to come enjoy it in the numerous city parks, on and around Bundek and Jarun lakes, and in the green areas scattered throughout the city, bringing cheerfulness to city buildings and asphalt.

This combination of urban area and nature is perfect for slow tourism, inviting you to explore it slowly and in more detail.

Not sure how to do it?

Just watch the locals. They will show you the way they live their everyday lives! People of Zagreb are real experts in achieving the balance between the hustle and bustle of the city and relaxation. They will explore and experience everything, but they will always take enough time to fully enjoy it.

Being the capital of Croatia, events never stop here. Regardless of the season, new concepts and ideas are constantly introduced. In this green oasis, nature will always give you serenity, show you how to appreciate the little things in life, slow down the pace, and devote yourself to what you do and see.

Whether you’re enjoying the greenery of Maksimir Park or drinking coffee in a cafe by Bundek Lake, make sure to enjoy the view, the atmosphere, and every sensation you’re experiencing.

In the urban rhythm of the city, these green areas are its lungs. Zagreb and nature live in a beautiful symbiosis you have to experience in person. You will surely fall in love with it! <3
