Nikola Tesla, a scientist, and visionary from Lika, village\u00a0<\/a><\/span>Smiljan, near Gospi\u0107, took part in the discussion at the City Assembly on the introduction of electric public lighting in the city of Zagreb in 1892, during the time of Mayor Milan Amru\u0161. A final solution was expected from Tesla scientists.<\/span><\/p>\n

The proposals were hydroelectric power plants on the rivers Mre\u017enica near the city of Karlovac or the river Korana near Plitvice Lakes<\/a>, in order to provide sufficient energy for the needs of public lighting in the city of Zagreb.<\/a> Since the river Mre\u017enica did not provide enough power for such a project, the strength of the Plitvice Lakes waterfalls was considered.<\/span><\/p>\n

“I see it as my duty, as a son of his country, to help the City of Zagreb in every way by advice and deed.” said Nikola Tesla<\/a> on the 24th of May 1892 about the idea of constructing the alternating current power plant in Croatia.<\/span><\/em><\/p>\n

The scientist and visionary from Lika once again proved his greatness. He believed that according to his calculations, the energy of the waterfalls would power the lighting of 25,000 light bulbs and not only 3,000 as was enough at the time, but it would destroy many waterfalls of the Korana River and Lake Kaludjerovac, which is by no means an option. \u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

After visiting the Plitvice Lakes National Park<\/a> and after seeing Lake Kalu\u0111erovac and the Korana waterfalls, Nikola Tesla calculated the water flow. <\/span>The project was abandoned, and a scientist from Lika offered a new solution using his invention of alternating current in Zagreb’s vicinity.<\/span><\/p>\n

Tesla, a brilliant mind born in Croatia,\u00a0in Lika,<\/a> is one of the most quoted and most frequently mentioned people of the modern world whose name today ‘drives’ the most famous electric car. The contemporary world would not be possible without Nikola Tesla because we would not have a remote control, refrigerator, radio. There would be no internet.<\/span><\/p>\n
