With the aim of a better traffic link and a positive shift in tourism and the overall economy, the Split Chamber of Commerce has proposed an increase in the number of airline lines in the area of Split-Dalmatia County. It is part of a series of measures that can contribute to reducing the seasonality of the tourist season, along with the expansion and diversification of the tourist offer and the county.
“The extension of flight season would achieve a positive shift in the overall economy, and if flights to ten major European cities increase three times a week during November, December and March, the season would be extended in Croatia for 12 weeks,” he said councilor of the professional group of hoteliers Split Josip Čulić.
The seasonality of Croatian tourism is present in all the counties in the Adriatic and is particularly emphasized in the Split-Dalmatia County. Although the county is well connected to the road, as a tourist destination it is far away from its broadcasting markets for shorter car trips. Therefore, the Split County Chamber of Commerce has proposed increasing the number of airline lines outside the main season to contribute to the extension of the tourist season. This measure would be crucial to enabling implementation and the rest of the measures to reduce seasonality, such as tourism development and the county. Thus tourists from the abroad could visit the tourist destinations of the Split-Dalmatia County throughout the year.
With the expected increase in the number of guests and revenues, the extension of the tourist season will lead to a reduction in the number of unemployed seasonal workers and savings in unemployment benefits.
