If you would like to spend a whole day indulge yourself – then this tour is made for you.
First some journey into the past of the most famous ethnic village
Kumrovec, then tasting the best sparkling wines in this part of Europe and guided tour of the Cellar Istenič and then among the green hills and beautiful scenery you’ll see and feed deer and mouflons and have lunch at one of the best restaurants in the area Jelenov Greben.
We will pick you up at after breakfast at your hotel or apartment at 9 AM (or so) and will drive 1-hour NorthWest from Zagreb to get very close to Slovenian board to Kumrovec, surrounded by Zagorje hills, one of the most famous ethnic villages in Croatia.
Today, ethnic-village Kumrovec is most traditional interior in Croatia, that depicts the authentic look of Zagorje village in the early 20th century, in 40 restored buildings of traditional architecture we can see where Marshal Tito/ex-Yugoslav socialistic dictator/ was born and lived his early years. We will visit the Memorial Museum of Josip Broz Tito, founded in 1953. The most extensive restoration and reconstruction works of “Staro selo”, took place in the period from 1979 – 1985.
After Kumrovec we will cross the border of Slovenia to visit the undiscovered gem of Slovenian wine making industry. The small town of Bizeljsko where Istenič family for 40 years grow and create some of the best sparkling wines in this part of Europe.
The town of Bizeljsko was not always known as such. This name was reserved for an entire region of several villages and hamlets. In 1968 the family Istenič bought an abandoned farmhouse and vineyard and produced their ﬁrst sparkling wine using the traditional method. Since then Janez Istenič laid the foundations for one of Slovenia’s largest houses of sparkling wines using the traditional method, and today the permanent stock of aging wines totals 500,000 bottles. The numerous prizes and awards won over the years testify to the quality of Istenič sparkling wines.
After wine tasting, we will drive for few minutes to the famous ranch with deer called Deer Reef.
Here you will feed the deer and when you get hungry the lunch with local specialties will be served. Depending on your preference, you can choose to visit the chocolate shop or craft beer pub.
When finished you will visit one of the first pharmacies in Europe and head back to Zagreb.
