Mata’s life motto is “The art of sailing through life”, and his inexhaustible source of inspiration is stone sailboats. The sculpture “Lines of Life” describes the life path of every human being, where we have endless possibilities. From that multitude, we choose the ones suitable for us, and all these choices lead us to a higher goal and purpose of existence: to grow upwards and into eternity.
“The art of sailing through life”
The sculpture weighs about 80 kg and is made of stone from Brač, carved in Vrbovac.
Mata CROat is one of only a few Croatian sculptors who exhibited at the Paris Salon, the most important of which was Ivan Meštrović, who exhibited in 1907.
The soul to a stone
Our world-famous poet Enes Kišević said about Mata’s works, “Mata gave the soul to a stone. He freed the stone from the weight of the earth. It is great art.”
Art critic Branka Hlevnjak said: “It’s not just ships and sails. They are from the heart and soul. It is so full of positive energy, that kind of inspiration. Something strong that pulls upwards is in the works of Mata CROata.”
Mata CROata appeared at the Paris Salon for the time this autumn.
Last year, he received an invitation from the expert jury of the Salon for his sculpture “Sail of Life,” which symbolizes man’s life path.
In 2020. he presented “Sail in the storm,” symbolizing humanity’s fight against the coronavirus and the return to normal life.
