The old town Zadar, which used to be called Zara, was decorated according to all the principles of Roman urbanism, five longitudes and a large number of transversal streets dividing the city by a strict geometric order into rectangular quarters – insulates.
At the western end of the town, the main square was built (forum), and next to the forum, there was a heightened capital and temple. In the area facing the sea, the economic square – emporia were set up. It is assumed that in the area of Roman Zadar, there was also an amphitheater for the maintenance of bloody gladiator battles, as well as a theater for the preparation of stage games.
