In September 2025, Croatia will step onto the global cycling stage as it welcomes Nova Eroica Istria – Truffle Tour bringing one of the world’s most iconic cycling experiences to the Adriatic for the very first time. Set against the rolling hills, vineyards, olive groves, and historic towns of Istria, this event promises not only a sporting challenge but also a journey into the very soul of the region – its nature, culture, and gastronomy.

A Legendary Cycling Tradition Comes to Croatia

The Eroica story began in 1997 in Gaiole in Chianti, Tuscany, celebrating vintage cycling and the charm of Italy’s white gravel roads. Over time, the movement expanded across the globe, and now, nearly three decades later, Croatia proudly joins the Eroica family. On Sunday, September 21, 2025, Novigrad will host the start and finish, with a vibrant festival atmosphere welcoming riders and visitors from all over the world.

Riding Through the Heart of Istria

Cyclists will traverse northwestern Istria, following the legendary Parenzana trail famous Istrian sights and passing through picturesque villages such as Brtonigla, Buje, Grožnjan, Oprtalj, and Livade – the truffle capital of Croatia – before climbing to the medieval hilltop town of Motovun. With almost 80% of the course on gravel, the routes combine rugged ascents, thrilling descents, and sweeping views that showcase the very best of Croatian attractions.

A Three-Day Festival of Cycling & Taste

From September 19–21, 2025, Novigrad will transform into the heart of cycling culture in Croatia. The EXPO zone will bring together exhibitors, local food, and live entertainment, creating a lively hub for cyclists, families, and visitors.

Highlights include:

  • Mini Bike Tour (September 20) – a family-friendly ride through the countryside.

  • Ciclo Club Eroica Tour – gentle cycling combined with tastings of Istrian delicacies.

  • Main Ride (September 21) with three routes:

    • Truffle Route – 150 km (competitive)

    • Teran Route – 100 km (competitive)

    • Malvasia Route – 60 km (recreational / cyclotourist)

Each route is inspired by Istria’s culinary treasures, blending sport, flavor, and heritage.
