At the first mention of sailing ships, wind, blue sea, the sound of the waves, we begin to fantasize about summer, holidays, and freedom… For the enjoyment of complete freedom – a good sailor is necessary: the one who knows the sea and the wind. Knowledge and imagination created the Sailboat Golden Horizon, a replica of the famous sailing ship France II built back in 1911. Golden Horizon was created in 2019 in Split, in Brodosplit, in Croatia.
The seafaring of Croatian people dates back to the time of Marco Polo. Our sailors, as they say, know the sea well, and that is crucial if you want to build ships. This fascinating ship, the Golden Horizon sailboat, is the largest cross-sail ship in the world. It is 162 meters long and 18.5 meters wide. It has five masts with 36 cross sails with a total area of 6,347 square meters. The most enormous mast is an impressive 63 meters high and weighs 24 tons, and the most extensive cross is 31 meters long.
The fantastic sailing ship GOLDEN HORIZON is the largest cross sail ship in the world
This luxury ship can accommodate up to 272 passengers in its 140 cabins and along with a crew of 159 members and can develop a speed of 10 to 17 knots. The Golden Horizon will allow guests to explore the world and oceans sustainably. Its voyages are planned according to prevailing winds and sea currents around the world, often following traditional trade routes. It will be a unique maritime experience.
The ship will offer excellent culinary experience and service and will undoubtedly attract all those who want to travel the world differently. The British company Tradewind Voyages will manage Golden Horizon with luxury cruising trips and its promotion and sales. Cruising trips are different; the ship is smaller, has plenty of space, and travels to unusual and distant places.
THE LARGEST SAILING BOAT IN THE WORLD WILL SOON BEGIN ITS FIRST VOYAGE
The first passengers will board the Golden Horizon in May 2021, as expected, in the UK, where they will dock at several ports to present the ship properly. In the first months, the plan is to sail to the Baltics, Norwegian fjords, Iceland, and around the UK. In September, it’s expected to sail the Mediterranean, all the way to Dubrovnik.
Then the largest sailing ship in the world will sail through the Suez Canal on the historic Silk Road, following the famous Croatian navigator Marco Polo, along the coasts of Yemen and India, all the way to Jakarta and Bali. Later, it’s planned a tour of Australia, followed by a cruise along the Indian Ocean to Japan and further towards Alaska, both the Americas and the Pacific Islands.
Interest in cruising on this beautiful and unique sailing ship in Britain is already great. We are convinced that wherever the wind and sea currents take Golden Horizon, it will bring many beautiful stories and unforgettable experiences and memories to its travelers. We are looking forward to this beautiful maritime story of the world’s largest sail-ship, built-in Brodosplit. We wish all the passengers and the crew a fair wind and calm sea!
