‘Porcijunkulovo’ is a word that even Croatians cannot pronounce without provoking the laughter of the people of Međimurje. However, at the end of July, visitors from all parts of Croatia and beyond come to the largest cultural and tourist event in Međimurje – Porcijunkulovo.

Međimurje is the smallest Croatian county in terms of area but rich in traditions and historical heritage. It can boast of the diversity of customs of its region.
The people of Međimurje carefully preserve their rich ethnographic heritage. Through festivals, they try to bring it closer to future generations and emphasize tradition and cultural and artistic heritage.

The tradition was passed down in families. Many wrote it down and preserved it for the future.

That’s why many forgotten crafts still live in Međimurje. In the old smithies and workshops, one can still see the making of objects used by our ancestors, such as baskets of various shapes woven from straw, sticks, or grass. Of the many preserved customs, Međimurje folk costumes and folk songs are especially famous.

By presenting folk customs, songs, dances, traditional costumes, and folk treasures, the past ‘remains’ in the present and in the future.
Međimurje can boast of a road of tradition that includes potters, weavers, traditional dishes, a mill on the Mura, woodcarvers, weavers, carvers of carnival masks …

Tradition is the foundation of the most significant cultural and tourist event, “Porcijunkulovo,” which begins on July 30 and lasts until August 2. This year it is happening for the 57th time.

The presentation of grain threshing of KUD Mačkovec attracts many visitors. The grain, sweat, and work, and the laughter and song that accompany it are part of the customs of the Međimurje peasant.

The performances of cultural and artistic societies show the rich history of song and dance and folk costumes specially prepared for various festivities.

Nothing was done in Međimurje without song and music. Cymbals are one of the almost forgotten instruments. That’s why traditional Međimurje melodies will be played on it every day of Porcijunkolovo.

The people of Međimurje are incredibly proud of their traditional food and drinks. Wine road, which in recent years is one of the most visited places in Međimurje. Good wine goes well with top-quality wine. Tiblica meat, greaves, Međimurje soup, Međimurje bread are part of the rich offer.
Every girl at the farewells got a gingerbread heart and drank at least one gvirc, a honey drink. All this can be found on Porcijunkolovo.
