Zoran Milanović is the fifth president of the Republic of Croatia and will hold office for a mandate of five years from February 19th, 2020. Mister Milanović has long been known in the Croatian political world; as the leader of SDP, the Social-democratic Party, one of the two main parties in Croatia, as well as from when he served as our Prime Minister from 2011. until 2016.
To be appropriately introduced to Croatia’s political history and present, you need to know that it has been an independent and sovereign country since the year 1991, led by its first president Dr. Franjo Tuđman from 1992 until his death in 1999.
Today, Croatia is a parliamentary country that, four years from the last, is expected to hold its parliamentary elections this year. At this moment in time, the Croatian Democratic Union holds power with Parliament Speaker Gordan Jandroković and Prime Minister Andrej Plenković.
Congratulations to the new president! May he and the soon-to-be newly elected government rule in harmony and peace.
