Ecomuseum ‘Međimurje malo/ A Little Međimurje’ presents ten attractive topics at its ten original locations. At each location are arranged or will be ‘special’ interpretation centers. Ecomuseum ‘Međimurje malo‘ is the first such project in Croatia, and it covers these ten topics throughout Međimurje.
In Western European countries, ecomuseums are very popular. Međimurje tourism got a fascinating cultural and tourist product with the project ‘Međimurje little,’ but it also imposed itself as a tourist destination.
Is Međimurje, although the smallest county in Croatia, with this project, became the one with the best tourist offer? Tourism in Međimurje is only 2% of total GDP, but this percentage could increase significantly soon with ecomuseum.
Why ‘Little Međimurje’?
Of all the counties in Croatia, Međimurje is the least affected by the coronavirus. Still, now they will welcome the ‘old paths of tourism’ with the excellent organization on the off-the-bitten paths.

Melin (mill) is the name of the rural architectural and craft heritage in the Mlinar (miller) Grunt Center with the multimedia exhibition “One day in the life of miller Franc Žalar”, in Žabnik.
Matulov Grunt /Matul’s land in Frkanovac is miraculous; Matul (butterfly) is a protected natural heritage in the visitors center ‘Med dvemi vodami/ In Between Two Waters’ in Križovac and an educational research center.
Cycling and hiking
One of the most famous people from Međimurje is certainly Rudolf Steiner. His life and work were presented in his birth house and the Dr. R. Steiner Center in Donji Kraljevec.
Beciklin, or a bicycle! Cycling and hiking have become synonymous with tourism in Međimurje. Now, it’s situated in the Međimurje Palace of Tourism, but will be, in the future, in the Bike and enocenter “Goričko sviralo” on Mađerka hill.

Pozoj, intangible cultural heritage and historical development of the fortification of the Old Town of Zrinski in the Museum of Treasures of Međimurje in Čakovec, still represents the influence of the Zrinski flame family on the development of Međimurje and Čakovec.
