At the center of the shrine is the Holy Mary of Bistrica statue, a masterpiece from the late 15th century. This wooden statue, the Black Madonna, carries deep symbolism and spiritual power that has inspired believers for centuries. Although it was discovered during restoration that the statue was not originally dark in color, its spiritual significance remains unchanged.

Two miraculous discoveries of the statue further strengthened faith in its power. It was first buried in 1545 to protect it during turbulent times and was rediscovered in 1588. The second discovery, after the statue was hidden again within the church walls, occurred in 1684, bringing hope and faith to many believers.
